A Mini Guide to the Internet for New Moms

When I was expecting, I visited as many online forums as I could to get an idea of what I was getting into.  Now that the baby's arrived and it's nothing like what I could have possibly anticipated, I surf the web to justify my parenting decisions. You can always find someone who agrees with you on the internetz!

Here's a list of acronyms explained that would have been really useful at the beginning:
  • AF - Aunt Flo
  • AP - Attachment Parenting
  • BF - Breastfeeding
  • BW - Baby wearing
  • CIO - Cry It Out
  • DD/F/H/S - Dear Daughter/Fiance(e)/Husband/Son
  • DTD - Do The Deed
  • EBF - Exclusively Breastfeeding
  • FF - Formula Feeding
  • FTM - First Time Mom
  • LO - Little One
  • IL/FIL/MIL - In-Laws/Father-in-law/Mother-in-law
  • ODD/DS - Older Dear Daughter/Dear Son
  • PP - Post-Partum
  • PPAF - Post-Partum Aunt Flo
  • PPD - Post-Partum Depression
  • SAHM/WAHM - Stay At Home Mom/Work At Home Mom
  • STTN - Sleep Through The Night
  • YDD/DS - Younger Dear Daughter/Dear Son

And as a warning, topics to stay away from at all costs:
  • breastfeeding vs. formula feeding
  • stay at home moms vs working moms
  • pacifiers vs no pacifiers
  • sleep methods of choice (CIO etc)
